Somatic Therapy: Calming the Mind and Body

What is Somatic Therapy?

Somatic therapy is based on the idea that the mind and body (soma) are connected, and that the body can be a resource for psychotherapy.  Somatic therapy can help people feel more connected, safe and at ease. They may feel a reduction in physical tension, and an increased awareness of their bodies. 


Somatic therapy sessions include talk along with mind-body exercises, physical techniques, and body-oriented modalities like dance, breathwork, yoga, and meditation. This mind-body approach helps the body to express deeply painful experiences, provide profound healing, and aid with trauma recovery*
